What is a Muse phone number?
A Muse phone number is a business line connected to your Muse. Customers call or message it like any other number. Instead of ringing your personal phone or going to voicemail, the conversation is handled by BotPhone, an AI receptionist that follows the instructions and business information you approve. When the conversation ends, the outcome is sent back to Muse, and a full recap is emailed to you.
Put simply: Muse is your assistant, and BotPhone is its phone.
Why a Muse needs a phone number
Most assistants live in a chat window. Small businesses, though, still run on phone calls. A missed call is usually a missed customer, and people who reach voicemail rarely call back. If your Muse is going to help run your business, it needs a way to be there when the phone rings, and a way to tell you what was said. A dedicated number also keeps customer calls separate from your personal phone.
What your Muse AI receptionist can do
Answer inbound calls
Inbound is the main job. BotPhone answers your business calls, collects the caller's name, contact details, and the reason they called, and answers common questions using the business information and instructions you approve. Because your Muse briefs the receptionist, you can change how it answers by asking Muse, for example: “Tell the receptionist we are closed Monday.”
WhatsApp is coming soon
WhatsApp support is on the way, but it isn't available yet. Today BotPhone for Muse answers phone calls only. It does not record call audio and keeps text transcripts and summaries.
Inbound calls only
BotPhone for Muse only answers inbound calls. It does not place outbound calls, so it won't call people back or make cold calls. When a caller leaves a message, the details are sent to you and your Muse so you can follow up yourself. Callers should still know they're talking to an AI where the law says so. Our guide to AI receptionist disclosure laws covers what applies.
Report everything back to Muse
This is what sets a Muse phone number apart from a plain answering service. Every conversation is summarized and sent back to your Muse, and the full recap is emailed to you. Then you can just ask:
- “Who called while I was away?”
- “What did that customer need?”
- “Change how we answer pricing questions.”
Supported actions depend on the connector permissions available to your account and your final setup.
How to set up a Muse phone number
- Copy the prompt. On the BotPhone for Muse page, choose Add to Muse and copy the connector prompt. It includes the server address and secure OAuth settings.
- Paste it into Muse. Open a Muse chat, paste the prompt, and send it.
- Approve the connection. Tap the connect link Muse sends back, sign in, and tap Allow.
That's it. Your receptionist is connected, and you can start briefing it from your Muse chat.
How much does a Muse phone number cost?
Current self-service pricing is simple:
- $2 one-time setup
- $2 per month for the assigned phone number
- $0.20 per minute for inbound calls, including calls forwarded from another number
Calling credit is prepaid, and usage is deducted from your balance. If you already have a business number, you can forward it to your receptionist through your own carrier. The number is rented for as long as your account is active, and prices are in U.S. dollars. See the terms for the full details.
Who is a Muse phone number for?
Anyone who runs a business alone or with a small team and can't always pick up: electricians, plumbers, HVAC and roofing crews, auto detailers, therapists, property managers, and other independent operators. If you're on a job site or with a client when the phone rings, the receptionist covers the call and your Muse tells you what to do next. A note on the beta
BotPhone for Muse is an independent beta. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Meta, and connector availability depends on your account eligibility, supported permissions, and the final production configuration. We'd rather tell you that up front than pretend a beta is finished software.
